Our performers are all masters of their art and very unique people to boot. Expect the unexpected, prepare to be amazed!” says Talent Curator, Bob Palmer.   Alex Elixir – is a juggler, musician, acrobat and funny-man.  Originally from Victoria, BC, this tour-de-force has entertained the likes of Former President Bill Clinton and Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien.  Along with being one of the most experienced Street Performers in Canada, he is constantly working on new material which has taken him to over a dozen countries from Europe to the Middle East.    Basketball Jones – Coming all the way from New Zealand, Basketball Jones, aka, Sean Dwen has been dribbling balls since a very young age.  From the day he was given a basketball, he developed a unique talent and act that is famous across the globe.  Basketball Jones juggles five regulation basketballs and skilfully rides a unicycle.   Gustavo the Impossiblist – Gustavo, from Calgary, turns the possible into the impossible right before the audience’s eyes.  This skilled clown can turn the unexpected into hilarity with his stunts such as the “Flaming Stilt Escape of Very Real Danger”.   Herbie Treehead – Starting from the streets of London, this comedian is internationally recognized with his interactive clowning act.  He brings an act full of surprises and large scale theatre in a travelling suitcase. This self-proclaimed dinosaur keeper will open your eyes to a new style of visual street theatre.   Ron Pearson – For over thirty years, this funny-man entertainer has been travelling across the continent with his high audience-involvement comedy shows.  His hilarious act will make the young and the young at heart laugh through the whole performance.    Street Circus Show – This circus duo from Winnipeg put together all the best aspects of a circus into one daredevil stunt show.  They combine stunning acrobatics, mind-bending contortion and an abundance of comedy to endlessly amaze their audiences. Dan and Kim were recently featured on The Ellen Degeneres Show.  We will have schedules times for all the circle show performers this year, so you are guaranteed to see your favourite artists. And don’t forget to show your appreciation by dropping some coins and bills as the performer’s “pass the hat”. There will of course be many other entertainers and musicians who will perform throughout the day in various locations.  There are also interactive artists like face painters and balloon artists that complete the festival.   CentreFest takes place July 31st and August 1st downtown at Ross Street and Gaetz Avenue.  The festival runs from noon to 8pm on Saturday and noon to 6pm on Sunday.  Mark your calendar and join us on Friday, July 30th at noon in City Hall Park for a sneak preview of the festival performers AND lunch at the ATCO Gas Kick-Off BBQ.

With over 650 cleanup sites registered across Canada, it is not too late to register for the 17th annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup as a Site Coordinator or Cleanup Participant.  For more information on the program, check out shorelinecleanup.ca or call 1-877-427-2422.-30-About the Great Canadian Shoreline CleanupThe Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation in action program that began in 1994 with a handful of Vancouver Aquarium employees who wanted to participate in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup.  In 2009, nearly 57,000 Canadians registered to cleanup 1,568 sites across Canada. Over 160,900 kg of litter was removed from a cumulative distance of 2,500 km of shoreline, which is equivalent to the approximate driving distance from Vancouver to the Manitoba/Ontario border.  Some of the more unusual items found in the past include a message in a bottle (the message said, “Please don’t litter”), false teeth, a living room set, a canoe made out of duct tape, wedding dress, disco ball, a hotel safe, a toboggan, a mini trampoline and a clothesline complete with poles and pins. Oyal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride (8:00 AM - 9:00 AM)

One of Canada’s most recognized icons, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride will be performing at the Enmax Centrium, Westerner park on Sunday, August 1st in support of the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter. The RCMP Musical Ride represents a colourful Canadian tradition.  The troop of 32 horses and riders will perform a variety of cavalry drills choreographed to music.  Working through a unique medium, they support the RCMP community policing efforts throughout Canada.   The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the North-West Mounted Police to display their riding ability and entertain the local community.  It has evolved over the decades into a uniquely Canadian performance enjoyed by tens of thousands of spectators every year.     Members of the Musical ride are first and foremost police officers.  They have at least two years experience in active police work before volunteering for duty with the Musical Ride.  Surprisingly, most have no prior riding experience.  The Musical Ride has not had a performance in Red Deer for many years and The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter is excited to welcome members to our community in support victims of domestic violence in our region.   “The shelter maintains a strong relationship with our local RCMP detachments” says  CAWES Executive Director Ian Wheeliker.  “They provide outstanding support of the work that we do everyday here at the shelter”.  Chief Superintendant Brian Simpson of the Red Deer RCMP is also excited to welcome the ride to Red Deer. “The Musical Ride represents a significant part of Canadian Heritage, and the opportunity to view the performance in all it's majesty speaks to a part of what this great country is about.  Besides it is a lot of fun to watch!” says Simpson.   An exciting pre-performance demonstration from the local RCMP Dog Training Depot will begin at 2:30pm.  The whole event runs for about 2 hours.  This will be fun for all the family! And for a great cause in our community.  Tickets are available to purchase via Ticketmaster for a cost of $8 per child (2-12) and $12 per adult.  Tickets will also be available at the door (ticketmaster fees apply)
